I am still in the learning stage with the hot knife foam cutter. So far I think I am doing good I read the directions and am trying to follow them closely. This is a new experience for me and I give the highest rating for how it works. I feel sure I will be getting better as time goes on and I use the knife more and more.
It's hot knife works extremely well when cutting through foam. Heats up fast. The one downside is the knife if you're not careful will Bend. But that worked out for me I was able to bend the knife right Oliver to make it have a U shape in the foam which I needed.
This comes with 2 blades that screw into contact points on the cutter. There’s a wheel on the back to adjust temp, although that measurement is ambiguous. And who cares? Aren’t we all going to set it to high, anyway? After you screw down the blades, hold down the trigger to heat it up. Then you’re ready to cut foam. From a thermal image (see video), it seems to get to about 300 degrees F at max temp. When you’re cutting with it, you want to start slow. I found that a sawing motion works well, as the parts of the blade that aren’t in the foam are hotter than the rest of the blade. The one rule to follow is to back off on the temp when it starts to smoke. But even then, you can keep cutting after you dial the temp down. The foam will build up on the blades. Once it cools, it’s easy enough to scrape it off using a paint scraper or another blade.
